Consumer Co-ops Present Relief Funds to Ishikawa Prefecture for 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake and Oku-Noto Heavy Rains Disaster

Consumer co-ops across Japan began fundraising activities immediately after the Noto Peninsula Earthquake in January 2024 and continued in the aftermath of the Oku-Noto Heavy Rain Disaster in September 2024.The nationwide fundraising campaign, initiated by JCCU, raised a total of ¥2,203,704,556 from 228 consumer co-ops by March 2025.

On this occasion, a total of ¥474,709,980 was presented to Ishikawa Prefecture as relief funds for the Oku-Noto Heavy Rain Disaster, accompanied by a formal presentation ceremony on May 15th. Including the previous donations for the Noto Peninsula Earthquake, the cumulative amount donated to Ishikawa Prefecture now exceeds ¥1.9 billion.

The presentation ceremony took place at the Ishikawa Prefectural Office and was attended by Governor HASE Hiroshi of Ishikawa Prefecture, ARAI Chitose, Vice President of JCCU, and Mr. OTANI Manabu, Chairperson of the Ishikawa Prefecture Consumers' Co-operative Union. Reports were presented on the support activities carried out to date by Co-op Ishikawa and consumer co-ops nationwide, as well as on the initiatives planned for FY2025.

JCCU will continue to work together with consumer co-ops and their members across Japan to support people in the disaster-affected areas. Under the slogan "Providing the longest and most caring support," we will stay close to those in need and offer thoughtful help.
