JCCU has compiled the organization and management status (fixed values) in FY2022 for 555 consumer co-ops nationwide including health and welfare co-ops, university co-ops, and JCCU member co-ops.
<Features of FY2022>
1. Membership of consumer co-ops nationwide increased by 240,000 to 30.41 million.
Membership of consumer co-ops nationwide in FY2022 increased by 240,000 from the previous year, reaching 30.41 million, or 100.8% over the previous year. In addition, membership of the retail co-ops, including community based (*1), institutional, university, and school teachers' co-ops, reached 26.55 million, an increase of 1.1%.
*1 Community-based retail co-ops: Co-ops that utilize home delivery and store businesses to provide goods/products and services, turning the local community into a hub of activities.
*2 Household Subscription Rate: Total membership ÷ Number of households based on the Basic Resident Register.
2.Co-ops Nationwide: Overall figures show a decrease in turnover and profit.
The total business turnover of co-ops nationwide (*3) was 37.095 trillion yen, showing a decrease of 59.6 billion yen (98.4% compared to the previous year). The ordinary surplus also decreased by 26.6 billion yen, reaching 79.3 billion yen (74.9% compared to the previous year).
*3:Total business turnover: The figure is calculated by adding the revenues from co-op insurance, welfare, and other businesses to the revenue from the sale of products.
3.Community-Based Retail Co-ops: Home delivery business turnover experienced a second consecutive year of decline, and individual delivery also saw a decline for the first time.
The total business turnover of community-based retail co-ops was 3.1176 trillion yen, marking a consecutive decrease for two years with a decrease of 65.5 billion yen (97.9% compared to the previous year). The turnover also experienced a decline of 70.2 billion yen (97.7% year on year), to 2.9927 trillion yen, falling below the 3 trillion yen mark for the first time in three years.
The total turnover of the home delivery business of community-based retail co-ops amounted to 2.899 trillion yen, showing a decrease for the second consecutive year with 98.9% compared to the previous year. The turnover for individual deliveries was 15.755 trillion yen, marking a decrease for the first time since the inception of the individual delivery system in 1990, with 99.5% compared to the previous year.
The store business turnover decreased to 915.3 billion yen (99.1% compared to the previous year). The number of stores decreased by 17 from the previous year to 921, and the sales floor area was 1.277 million ㎡ (99.2% compared to the previous year). There are 5 new stores with a total area of 13,005 ㎡ and 22 closed stores of 15,937 ㎡, resulting in a decrease of 2 new stores and an increase of 10 closed stores compared to the previous year.
