On May 9, Toyama Co-op* donated about 3,500 pieces of sanitary pads to each junior high school and 1,400 pieces to each elementary school in Uozu City. In addition, about 3,500 pieces were presented to the Children's Division of the City Hall.
This initiative was decided during an exchange between Toyama Co-op and the city of Uozu since they have made a comprehensive partnership agreement. Under this initiative, Toyama Co-op donated sanitary products to seven elementary and junior high schools in Uozu city as an initiative to help solve the issue of period poverty and to support women's activities.
Ms. IBARAKI, Executive Director of Toyama Co-op, who attended the meeting, said, "We know that there are a great number of women suffering from period poverty. However, the reality is that there are very few sanitary products available in schools and government offices in the prefecture. Through this initiative, we would like to create an environment where the current situation of period poverty, which has not been visualized, can be openly discussed without hesitation, and warmly supported.
Toyama Co-op is working not only from the viewpoint of supporting women in their daily lives but also in cooperation with the local government to solve the problems they face in the community.
