The "Sado Crested Ibis Supporting Rice Project" began in April 2010, when Sado City, the former Co-op Niigata, the former Co-op Net, and others signed a partnership agreement aimed at protecting the crested ibis on Sado. A portion of the sales from eligible products, such as "CO·OP Sanchoku Niigata Sado Koshihikari rice" sold through Co-opdeli Group's home delivery service and stores, is donated to the "Sado City Crested Ibis Environmental Conservation Fund" and used for creating environments that nurture living things and for environmentally friendly rice cultivation. By eating rice from Sado, co-op members help support rice farming that coexists with the crested ibis.
