Community-based consumer co-ops' first half business results:
JCCU has summarized the retail sales of 65 major community-based co-ops in Japan for the first half of FY2022. Despite the impact of price hikes, the sales volume showed a growth trend compared to the pre-COVID-19 period. Total sales volume for September 2022 amounted to 237,026 million JPY (97.9% year-on-year). Until May, the performance exceeded that of FY2021 for three consecutive months. Since June, although affected by the restrained buying due to soaring prices, it still showed a growth trend in comparison with FY2019.

1. Home delivery business
In the first half of FY2022 (March 21-September 20), home delivery business sales volume was 99.1% compared to that of 2021 and 111.9% compared to the same period in 2019. Although there were concerns about the impact of shortened home hours following the full lifting of priority measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection on March 22, home delivery sales exceeded the previous year's level for three consecutive months until May. From June onwards, sales continued to decline year-on-year due to the impact of rising prices. By category, however, sales of clothing grew due to increased opportunities to go out, including the Bon vacation, the first time in three years that there were no restrictions on people's movement.

2. Store Business
Store Business sales in the first half of FY2022 (March 21 to September 20) were 97.8% compared to 2021 and 102.7% compared to the same period in 2019. Side dishes continued to show a growth trend, despite the impact of several factors such as the slowdown in bulk purchases and in eating at home or eating ready-made meals, as well as the recovery of demand for eating out and holiday shopping due to the first major holiday in three years with no restrictions on activities.
