JCCU will gradually change the packaging of its popular banana products, "Designated Plantation CO・OP Philippine Bananas" and "Designated Plantation CO・OP Philippine Highland Bananas," with an annual supply volume of approximately 13.55 million packs (January to December 2023), to one with a GGN label. The switch to the new packaging will gradually take place starting from late September 2024.

The GGN label signifies that the product has been produced on a farm that meets GLOBALG.A.P. standards, which are international benchmarks for responsible production. These standards cover food safety, labor conditions (including safety, health, and welfare), human rights, environmental conservation, etc.. The label also ensures that the product can be traced back to the farm where it was produced, having been certified by an independent third-party auditing organization. GAP, which stands for Good Agricultural Practices, or "proper agricultural standards" or "agricultural production process management," aims to improve agricultural management and efficiency while promoting responsible farming. This initiative involves implementing, recording, inspecting, and evaluating each stage of the production process to ensure adherence to standards in food safety, environmental protection, labor safety, human rights, overall farm management, etc..

By using this label, the transparency of the supply chain from the farm to the consumer is ensured. Information about the producer can be obtained by entering the identification number listed on the GGN label into the GGN website or by scanning the QR code printed on the packaging. In the case of bananas, it is possible for consumers to know where in the world and who produced the bananas they have purchased.

JCCU has established the '2030 Goals for CO・OP Brand Products,' which aims to achieve sustainable sourcing of raw materials by 2030. For fresh agricultural products, the goal is to source 100% of them from producers who have implemented GAP (Good Agricultural Practices).

By adding the GGN label to the packaging of "Designated Plantation CO・OP Philippine Bananas" and "Designated Plantation CO・OP Philippine Highland Bananas," JCCU can strengthen GAP efforts for fresh agricultural products worldwide and promote responsible farming.

JCCU will continue to work on developing and promoting products that consider the environment and society.
