JCCU launched the "CO•OP × Red Cup Campaign", which is an initiative of the Japan Association for the World Food Programme (JAWFP), from October 1 to November 10, 2024, and raised 4,015,975 yen in donations through the support of its member co-ops nationwide.
In this campaign, one yen from the sale of each designated CO·OP brand product purchased by co-op members is donated to JAWFP to support the WFP "School Meal Programme" in selected countries, providing meals to school children.
The campaign started in 2014 and has supported the Republic of Ghana from 2014 to 2016, and the Kingdom of Cambodia from 2017 to 2019.
In 2024, it celebrated its 10th anniversary, with a total contribution reaching 48,765,094 yen.
Since 2020, the campaign's support has been directed to children in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Donations are used to improve children's nutrition, raise school enrolment and attendance, and develop human resources to operate the "School Meal Programme".
For the 2024 campaign, co-ops nationwide encouraged their members to purchase designated products through home delivery catalogues and in stores. A total of 4,015,975 target products, including "CO·OP Cup Noodles", were purchased.
On February 21, 2025, a donation presentation ceremony was held at Co-op Plaza (JCCU headquarters) in Shibuya, Tokyo. A donation inventory was presented by JCCU to Mr. AOKI Sou, Executive Officer of JAWFP. In return, JAWFP presented a certificate of appreciation.
Mr. AOKI expressed his heartfelt thanks and commented:
"Myanmar's political situation is unstable, and there are many regions with limited logistical access. In such areas, we are shifting from material to cash-based assistance. Like in many parts of the world, rising food prices have become a serious challenge. That's why expectations for these donations are higher than ever. On behalf of JAWFP, I sincerely thank co-op members nationwide for their warm support. I hope this assistance will continue."
The JCCU will continue to support developing countries, together with its member co-ops, through donation activities to UN agencies and the active promotion of socially conscious products that include charitable contributions.
