JCCU to replace plastic packaging of CO-OP Makeup Series with FSC certified paper reducing the use of plastics by 1.6 t per year

2023.11.22

As part of its efforts to reduce the amount of plastics used for CO-OP Brand products, the Japanese Consumers' Co-operative Union (JCCU) will change the material of the outer packaging of 15 products in the CO-OP Makeup Series from plastic to paper one by one, starting from September 2023. This change is expected to reduce the use of plastics by 1.6 t per year (compared to FY2022 results).

The CO-OP Makeup Series comprises basic makeup products developed based on the voices of Co-op members. It ranges from base makeup items, which give your skin a natural, clear complexion, to color makeup items, which come in many colors suitable for everyday use.

In May 2021, the JCCU set up CO-OP Brand Product Goals for 2030: to reduce the amount of plastics used in containers and packaging by 25% compared to 2016 and to increase the total usage rate of recycled and plant-based plastics to at least 50% by 2030.

This replacement of plastic packaging of the CO-OP Makeup Series with FSC®-certified paper is part of the JCCU's efforts to achieve these goals.
