To create a place that connects people in the community, Co-op Gunma* operates a children's cafeteria, "Hopetan Hiroba," as an open space where anyone can conveniently visit, especially children.
On April 13, Co-op Gunma opened "Hopetan Hiroba" in Shibukawa City, its fourth location in the prefecture. A gathering at the open space is held on the second Thursday evening of every month, where participants enjoy dinner and socialize with each other. (Participation is free for children and 200 yen for adults.)
On the day of the event, 19 people (13 children and 6 adults) participated. Curry rice was served for dinner, which was well received by the participants, who said it was delicious. Most of the participants had second helpings. Some children did their homework and played with the equipment in the playground after the meal. Participants commented that they had a good time and would like to participate again next time.
*Co-op Gunma has membership of 346,569 and conducts home delivery and store businesses in Gunma Prefecture in the Kanto region of Japan.
