From March 26 to April 1, except March 29, in the spirit of cooperation between cooperatives, Co-op Sapporo and JA Group Hokkaido, an agricultural co-operative, provided about 36,000 packs of milk (200ML) free of charge. The milk was delivered to the members of Co-op Sapporo through its meal delivery service and mobile stores.
This initiative was started due to the closure of schools by the Japanese Government to combat the new coronavirus infection. JA Group Hokkaido, under this situation decided to provide surplus milk meant for school lunch free of charge and called on Co-op Sapporo for cooperation.
JA Group Hokkaido, as a cooperative involved in food and agriculture, provided the free milk as part of its social contribution activities in the hope that milk will help people increase the physical strength and immunity. Co-op Sapporo distributed the milk as part of the co-op's social mission to support the food lifeline.
In Hokkaido, an increasing number of initiatives are run together by co-operatives of different sectors today.
