CO-OP Sapporo announces plans for biogas plant

2018.03.14

The Tokachi-Shimizu Agricultural Cooperative (JA Tokachi-Shimizu) and Co-op Sapporo's affiliated company EneCo-op Co., Ltd. have established a biogas plant reflecting the local people’s opinion that aims at the formation of recycling-oriented agriculture in the region.

Tokachi Shimizu Town, which raises 24,000 cows, boasts top-class raw milk production in Hokkaido.

In order to further promote healthy agriculture in the region in terms of stable production and sustainability, it has become necessary to construct aggressive manure treatments. Against this backdrop, JA Tokachi-Shimizu, EneCo-op Co. Ltd and nine dairy farmers in the region jointly funded the establishment of Tokachi Shimizu Biomass Energy Co., Ltd., a biogas plant which is going to be one of the largest plants in Japan. It will be launched in July 2019 and sales begins in August same year.
