On May 15, 2023, a roundtable discussion on the theme of "Community Symbiosis and Consumer Co-ops" was held at the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare with the participation of co-op staff and MHLW staff.
As part of the government's initiatives to realize a community symbiotic society, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) is conducting a public relations campaign introducing a range of activities in the fields other than welfare and to give people a sense of the diversity of a community symbiotic society. Staff from Co-op Aomori, Co-op Mirai, Osaka Izumi Citizens' Co-op, and the JCCU participated in the roundtable discussion held as its initiative.
The roundtable discussion provided an opportunity to deepen mutual understanding through exchanges of opinions on each co-op's activities, such as food donations to the programs to support child poverty, scholarship programs for high school students, and creating a place that connects diverse people in the community.
The term "community symbiotic society" refers to a society in which local residents and the various actors in the community participate in creating a life worth living for each and every resident by connecting people to people and people to resources beyond generations and fields.
