The Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, (NPT Review Conference), was being held in New York from August 1 to 26, 2022. In conjunction with the conference, JCCU, along with the Hiroshima Consumers' Co-operative Union and the Nagasaki Consumers' Co-operative Union, sent a co-op delegation team consisting of employees and co-op members from August 2 to 8, 2022.

At the venue, the four delegates sent by the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations (Nihon Hidankyo)* and the co-op delegation team vigorously engaged in activities including giving testimonies by A-bomb survivors and making requests to the governments of various countries. Together with the Hibakusha, the co-op delegation team also conveyed to the world the reality of the atomic bombings and their wish for the abolition of nuclear weapons. In addition, they wish that this NPT Review Conference can show a path toward the abolition of nuclear weapons.

*Nihon Hidankyo is the only national organization of A-bomb survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (Hibakusha) in Japan. It is formed with Hibakusha organizations in all 47 prefectures. It was founded on August 10, 1956, during the 2nd World Conference against A and H Bombs.

On August 5, the A-bomb exhibition organized by Nihon Hidankyo kicked off in the lobby of the United Nations Headquarters. Through displaying photographs and other materials, the exhibition conveyed the experiences of Hibakusha and their efforts over the past 70 years. Many visitors visited the A-bomb exhibitions and listened to the stories of Hibakusha.

The A-bomb exhibition panels were created using more than 16 million yen donated to the "2020 NPT Review Conference and Hibakusha Activities Support Fund," which was donated by co-ops nationwide in 2019.

JCCU will continue to convey the realities of war and the atomic bombings as well as its desire for the abolition of nuclear weapons to as many people as possible, and will continue to take steps toward this from now and in the future.
