JCCU has launched a series of 18 MEL-marked shirasu (Whitebait) products of its CO・OP Sustainable Product series with the theme "Protecting ocean resources", which have been on sale sequentially since March.
The CO・OP Sustainable Product series use seafood from certified sustainable fisheries as its main ingredient. MEL (Marine Eco-Label Japan) is one of these certifications, and the Marine Eco-Label Japan Council certifies fisheries and aquaculture operations that are conducted in an environmentally friendly manner with respect to marine resources and ecosystems.

Eighteen products in the small pack series that use shirasu as an ingredient will now be sold with the MEL mark. These products are popular products with an annual supply volume of approximately 22 million servings. By making products using domestic marine products, which are widely used by Co-op members nationwide, into products with the MEL mark, we will further promote sustainable initiatives for Co-op products.
JCCU has set the "2030 Goals for CO・OP Brand Products," which define the sustainable procurement targets for raw materials and other items for the year 2030. It includes the goal to increase the number of certified marine products and increase the ratio of certified products to more than 50% of the total value of supply.
