Co-opdeli Consumers' Co-operative Union has been selling Sado Island rice since 1994 and has continued to interact with the producers. In 2010, the "Sado Crested Ibis Supporting Rice Project" was launched. This project is an effort to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of CO-OP Sanchoku Niigata Sado Koshihikari rice and its processed products to the "Sado Crested Ibis Environmental Improvement Fund." The donation is used for the conservation of the habitat of the crested ibis, and to create an environment for their feeding grounds.
In FY2021, a total of 3,343,878 yen was donated, bringing the project's cumulative donations to 29,591,770 yen over the past 11 years.
After the presentation ceremony, Co-op Niigata and Co-op Kuruco members and their children, officials and staff, producers, Sado City staff, and JA Sado staff harvested rice creating rice paddy art and conducted a survey of living creatures.
