Co-ops nationwide, in cooperation with the government and various NPOs engaged in disaster relief, are building close relationships and working to improve their support systems, in preparation for emergencies such as the event of a disaster.
In August 2021, heavy rains in Minamishimabara City, Nagasaki Prefecture, forced about 100 residents of the surrounding area to take refuge in evacuation centers due to fears of a large-scale mudslide disaster.
In August 2020, Lala Co-op signed an agreement with Minamishimabara City to provide disaster relief supplies, and in accordance with the agreement this time, they provided meals to evacuees for four days from August 17 to 20, 2021 upon the request from Minamishimabara City.
100 lunch boxes each for breakfast, lunch, and dinner were provided.
Lala Co-op supplied all three meals, from sweet bread and cooked bread for breakfast through lunch and dinner. Although it was an urgent request, Lala Co-op's suppliers responded politely by changing the lunch box menu for each meal.
A different lunch box was provided for each meal.
There are no stores of Lala Co-op in the Shimabara Peninsula, where the evacuation center is located, and the closest store is several tens of kilometers away. Lala Co-op staff took turns to deliver the food to the disaster countermeasures headquarters in Minamishimabara City, driving over a hundred kilometers round trip. On the first day of the delivery, the weather had not gotten better and the road conditions on the way to Shimabara were not good, with some parts of the road closed to traffic, so the team had to make a lot of detours to arrive at the Minamishimabara City Office, the headquarters of the disaster countermeasures.

Initially, the city had asked the local inns to provide lunch boxes, but none of them was able to provide three meals for over 100 residents. Therefore, the city officials were very grateful for Lala Co-op's support, saying, "We were able to provide the residents with more than just emergency food."
