Co-opdeli Consumers' Co-operative Union won the Legend Award for Excellence at the Sustainability Awards for the video of the "Churashima Mozuku Project."
The Sustainability Awards is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Consumer Affairs Agency, and the Ministry of the Environment to achievie SDGs by 2030. These awards are organized to spread the initiatives of local communities, producers, businesses, and consumer groups that deal with sustainable services and products related to food, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. During the period from November 2020 to January 2021, the organizers called for videos that introduce the efforts of each organization.
Co-opdeli's "Churashima Mozuku Project" has started in 2010 and is an initiative to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Mozuku, a specialty product of Iheya Village in Okinawa Prefecture, to the Iheya Island. The donation will be used for natural environment protection activities such as transporting and processing of drifted garbage and purification of sandy soil. Another purpose of the project is to support the promotion and revitalization of the island by further deepening cooperation with Iheya Village.
