Hiroshima Prefecture Consumers 'Co-operative Union, in collaboration with Hiroshima-ken Joint Committee of Co-operatives and JA Group Hiroshima, launched the "Food Support Project for University Students" to provide food to university students.
As self-restraint living continues due to the spread of COVID-19 infection, university classes continue to be conducted online and university students whose part-time job income has decreased are living with anxiety. To support such students, the Co-operative Union and project team members called for food support for students of six universities living alone in the prefecture. In total 2,171 applications were received, and they were delivered with 2 kg of new rice produced in the prefecture and some CO・OP Brand Products (retort curry, cup noodles, canned food, etc.) free of charge.
Project members distributed food to 1,001 students in Hiroshima University Higashi-Hiroshima campus on October 1 and 2. The students were pleased to receive the food items and the following comments were made, "Is it okay to receive all these much?" "I'm really happy with the rice."
They also home-delivered the food to students of other universities because accesses to their campuses were restricted.
