JCCU is focusing on developing ethical products that promote ethical consumption based on the "Co-op Action Plan for SDGs" adopted in June 2018. We see ethical consumption as "what consumers can do for a sustainable society through shopping", in other words, "purchasing goods and services giving consideration to community, environment, society, and people". In 2019, the cumulative sales of ethical products such as MCS and Rain Forest Alliance certificated products increased to 116.9% compared to 2018.
Also, JCCU started selling three new ethical products as CO・OP Brand Products from March 1, 2020.
①MSC* (Marine Stewardship Council) certified pouched tuna.
(released on March 1)
The pouched tuna uses MSC certified tuna as the main ingredient.
It is the first product in Japan to acquire the MSC label in the category of pouched tuna.
*MSC certification ensures that fish or seafood product comes from a sustainable fishery that has met the MSC Fisheries Standard.
②ASC* (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) certificated meal kit (CO • OP's half-cooked product), including shrimps and potatoes made in Hokkaido covered with basil sauce.
(released on March 1)
The meal kit provides you ASC-certified Vannamei shrimp, Hokkaido potatoes, broccoli, green beans and red peppers and western-style basil flavor source.
* ASC certification is an international certification given to seafood produced from well managed farms that take into consideration the environment and the society.
③Rainforest Alliance* Certified "CO・OP salt-free Macadamia nuts"
(It will be released on April 1)
This product is made entirely from macadamia nuts grown on Rainforest Alliance Certified farms and because it is roasted without using any salt or oil, it offers a crisp texture and a good balance of sweetness.
* Rainforest Alliance Certification is an international certification granted to farms that meet strict standards from the perspectives of ecosystem protection, environmental protection, and improving the working environment.
