Co-op Mirai which is a member co-op of Co-op deli Consumers' Co-operative Union, provided food items for school meals to kindergartens, elementary and junior high schools in Tateyama city, Chiba Prefecture.

Typhoon Faxai that occurred in September 2019 destroyed a part of the school meal centers making it impossible for most schools there to provide school meals for the school children. On February 20 and 21 2020, Co-op Mirai provided a total of 3,650 food items to 6 out of 9 public kindergartens and all 14 elementary and junior high schools in Tateyama city.

After the Typhoon Faxai, Tateyama city has been providing simple school meals such as rice, milk, furikake seasoning, fermented soybeans, etc. instead of regular school meals by the school meal center. Students who are not satisfied with the simple school meal bring along their own lunch boxes. To satisfy these students and also to reduce the burden on parents from preparing lunch boxes, Co-op Mirai provided "shogayaki", stir-fried pork with ginger on rice. The students enjoyed the meal by saying "it is delicious!"

The food provided this time was covered by the Typhoon Faxai Damage Emergency Donation, which was established last year by Member Co-ops of Co-op deli Consumers' Co-operative Union including Co-op Mirai.
