Typhoon Faxai victims support by co-ops nationwide

2019.10.29

On September 9, 2019, Typhoon Faxai caused major damages throughout the Tokyo metropolitan area. JCCU and co-ops nationwide have been supporting the affected areas immediately after the disaster occurred, such as delivering relief supplies and calling for donations from co-op members.

Co-op Deli Consumers 'Co-operative Union, in which the affected areas are part of its business area, has provided various supports in cooperation with local governments. In areas where evacuation orders were issued the day before the typhoon, relief supplies were delivered to the designated evacuation centers in advance. After the disaster, Co-op Deli continued to deliver drinking water, food, powdered milk, sanitary products, plastic sheets to cover damaged roofs, etc. to various locations.

Besides, Co-op Deli extended its own support to co-op members and business partners in water outage areas, providing supplies to local residents and volunteer centers, and dispatching volunteer staff. Also, as activities unique to the Co-op, were the collection of agricultural products that the producers could not ship due to power and water outages and selling them at member co-op stores and facilities and opening member co-op facilities to victims as a place to provide power.

Co-op Deli members' contribution "Typhoon Faxai Damage emergency assistance fund-raising" was accepted until October 20th.
