JCCU attended the ILO-ICA Joint Conference on "Co-operatives and the future of work"

On June 24, 2019, in Geneva, Switzerland, the International Labor Organization (ILO) held a joint conference with the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) to commemorate its 100th anniversary. HONDA Eiichi, President and SASAGAWA Hiroko, Executive Director attended from JCCU.
At the meeting, the ILO and ICA Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed. The ILO and ICA signed a partnership agreement on collaboration under the framework of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs*) in 2004, and this is the second revision and update following 2015. In this memorandum, an agreement was reached between the two parties to promote and strengthen cooperatives as a "sustainable business model to advance inclusive and sustainable development". Mr. Guy Ryder, ILO Director-General and Dr. Ariel Guarco, ICA President signed a memorandum to confirm further collaboration between the ILO and ICA.
Subsequently, governments and international organizations reported on "Cooperatives and the future of work according to today's trend". In addition, co-authors of the book "Co-operatives and the future of work" which was co-edited by the ILO and ICA, reported on the book followed by a panel discussion.
Prior to the joint meeting, the 108th ILO General Assembly was held on June 21 and JCCU attended as an observer. The General Assembly adopted "the ILO Centenary Declaration for the Future of Work". The declaration states that co-operatives are the enterprises that contribute to the realization of decent work and sustainable development.
Since 2010, JCCU in collaboration with ILO has been supporting the human resource development for the establishment and development of cooperatives in Africa.
* The eight goals adopted at the UN Millennium Summit ranged from halving extreme poverty to building a safer, more prosperous and equitable world all by the target date of 2015. After achieving certain results, it was inherited by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) towards 2030 at the UN Summit in 2015.
