JCCU participated in National Conference for Promoting Disaster Risk Reduction 2018 held in Tokyo Big Sight and Sona area (Tokyo Rinkai Disaster Prevention Park) from October 13-14, 2018. The Conference was organized by the Executive Committee of National Conference for Promoting Disaster Risk Reduction 2018.

It was held under the theme” Preparing for large-scale disasters - Strengthening a network of collaboration in a community -” to give opportunities to learn about disaster reduction to a wide range of people: citizens, children, and experts.

On October 14, JCCU provided a hands-on learning program cooperating with Co-op Mirai, Palsystem Tokyo, Tokyo Consumers’ Co-operative Union, under the theme "to increase disaster resilience at home making good use of the services of consumer co-ops" to introduce the importance of storing items for emergencies. 

 Approximately 120 people including parents and children participated in the Co-ops’ program. They had opportunities to reconsider what they should have in their emergency bag through an original card game. They also learned at the exhibition corners about the importance of building and rotating the stock of food and how to cook easy meals during emergency.

Visitors returned home with original shopping bags and Co-op Brand Products as souvenirs.
