Japan flooding disaster: announcement of emergency fund raising and delivery emergency relief goods

On July 6 and 7 2018, torrential rains hit mainly the Chugoku and Shikoku regions of western Japan. More than 200 people died and over 7 thousand people are now living in evacuation shelters. We wish to express our heartfelt sympathy to everyone who was affected by this heavy rain.

JCCU delivered relief supplies from its Logistics Center in Hiroshima Prefecture as the first rescue aid to the areas affected by the heavy rain. Bottled water, tea, supplementary food cookies, instant snack noodles etc., totaling about 3,000 cases were delivered to Hiroshima Pref. and Okayama Pref. Arrival date was between July 7and 9.

Also, in order to support the rebuilding of the lives of the affected people and the local reconstruction activities, JCCU is calling on co-op members nationwide for emergency fund-raising. The donations received by JCCU from member co-ops will be delivered to the victims as support funds through the municipalities of the disaster areas.

How to donate: through co-op stores of member co-ops and home delivery outlets

Fundraising Beneficiary:

  1. Donation directly to victims through local governments: We plan to send remittances to prefectures and municipalities with major damage, mainly in Chugoku and Shikoku district.
  2. Assistance funds: This will be utilized for activities such as living support for victims in the disaster areas by private organizations. Also, it will be used for the reconstruction assistance of disaster area.
