JCCU develops a web check system for meals intake in collaboration with University of Tokyo

JCCU cooperates with SASAKI Satoshi Laboratory of the Department of Social and Preventive Epidemiology at the University of Tokyo to develop a web check system that is easy for users to input dietary intake status of individuals using personal computers and smartphones and analyzes individual results for improving dietary habits. The system helps individuals to check their own health and eating habits and receive advice.

From April 2018, JCCU will call on nationwide member co-ops to cooperate to expand the use of the web check system.

This system is a Web version of "BDHQ" (brief-type self-administered diet history questionnaire) developed by the Sasaki Laboratory, with about 80 questions asking respondents to provide information regarding the contents of their recent meal menu.

Since FY 2016, JCCU has been promoting the use of BDHQ's question sheet at the learning sessions of co-op members and has been receiving satisfactory feedbacks. In light of this JCCU has decided to introduce the system to more co-op members to use.

One of the five priority issues of the Third Basic Plan for Promotion of Shokuiku (dietary education) formulated by Japanese government in June 2016 is the "Promotion of food education leading to extension of healthy life span" aiming at "Increase the number of citizens who practice eating habits constantly maintaining appropriate weight and reducing salt, etc. in order to prevent and improve lifestyle-related diseases".

With the increase in lifestyle-related diseases and amid growing interest in "health and food" among the super aged society JCCU and member co-ops will strive to support each individual's health needs.
